kastanza
as my enraving machine is currently out of action ( see the topic below), i visited a nearby engraver (about 4 miles away) to have a trophy plate engraved with 15 letters. I provided the plate, the engraver charged me £7.95 . i thought this was rather steep, or am i way off the mark?
Lee
for a "trade" price it does seam a bit expensive! (to me!) but he has you over a barrel & I can understand him charging you a "retail" price. at the end of the day your just a customer at the counter, why should he do it any cheaper...... Get that machine fixed ASAP! Lee

Michael
Just put mine up to £6.50, but probably would've done it a bit cheaper for a fellow trader...

cobblers&keys
If you have a good relationship with this engraver then it was a bit harsh to charge you this much . But if you don't speak and are rivals in business then I don't blame him charging you.
gav
Kastanza did you explaine who you was to this nearby engraver? , if you did then he/she is a tight arse. kastanza
thank you all for the feedback - in fairness to the engraver, he doesnt know me from adam, and engraving is only a sideline to my business really, so i wouldnt be known outside of my immediate customer base. i'd charge £4.50 for this type of plate usally. Pussycat Doll
We do engraving - mainly jewellery and whilst I was looking at competitors prices on the internet, was surprised at how much some charge. We do free engraving on the items they purchase but some places charged 35p per letter. Not too bad if you only wanted initials but on one item that we sold at christmas for £18 fully engraved, a competitor would have charged over double for the inscription. Free Engraving You need to charge so you have the money to replave and upgrade your machines. We charge a cheaper rate if people buy the item from us. But we always charge. Pussycat Doll
If we buy an item in for £10 we tend to charge something like £25 for the item plus free text engraving on one side. We have a small charge of around £1.50 for double sided text engraving, then we charge £5 for graphics or photograph engraving, so it isn't really free engraving but couldn't be mithered charging per letter or per line. Doll, Because of the lack of response I take it that you have to purchase your diamonds too Sorry for not replying. Yes we do have to purchase our bits. We are an internet business though and although I say free engraving, I mean that we factor our costs into our prices rather than the cost of the item then engraving costs on top. kobblers
I know quite a few people who do that pussycat, it's a canny way of doing business and a method we practice to a certain degree ourselves
