Cobblers c ycle for children's charity

28 August 2008

TWO kind-hearted Bromsgrove cobblers will be putting pedal to the metal next week as they saddle up to raise money for Children in Need in a sponsored cycle ride.

Martin Connellan and Adam Hood from the Bromsgrove Cobbler will get into gear as part of the Cycling for Shoe Recycling challenge which will see shoe repairers from across the UK cycle from Aberdeen to Lyme Regis to help raise £20,000 for Children in Need

And, in a special twist, all the riders who complete a section of the route will be riding with two pairs of shoes – one owned by Good Life star Felicity Kendal.

During the five-day event, the shoes will be soled, heeled and polished along the way to promote recycling and to encourage residents to re-use and recycle worn-out shoes.

The challenge is split into an east route and a west route, each section will be completed by teams who will relay the shoes to the finish line. At the start of the challenge the shoes will be soled, in the middle they will be heeled and at the end they will be polished and ready to wear

Martin and Adam will complete their 20mile leg a week on Monday (September 8) when they set off from Hartlebury Castle to the Rose and Crown pub in the Worcestershire village of Seven Stoke.

The pair hope to raise more than £200 in donation s and sponsorship and have been offering special shoe shine buffers to customers who have donated £1 or more in support of the Cycling for Recycling challenge.

Martin said: "I just think everyone needs to do their little bit for charity and this is mine - thank you to those who have sponsored us so far because the support we have had has been great."

Adam said: "I am looking forward to cycling the 20 miles all in aid for a good cause."
