I've always had a 3 phase machine, and a single phase supply.

The machine runs through a convertor, which by some magical process makes it all work fine!

Ocasionally the convertor breaks (twice in 10 years), but is easy & (so far) cheap to sort, so I'd recommend it every time for those on single phase supply.
