Coined Keys

Recommended Posts

Do many of you have blanks with your Company name/tel number on?

and do you find them successful?

We use keyrings with our name and tel number on. We give them out F.O.C. to anyone having 2 or more keys cut.

We often have customer getting keys cut and they've already got one of our keyrings.

Which blanks do you have coined 1A's or UL1's (U5D'S)?

I have mine coined by Davenport-Burgess (01902 366448)

From what I remember they have a charge for the die, which is wavered for the first order if the quantity is enough (might have changed since my first order 19 years ago). Then I have to order a minimum of 1000 blanks at a time and its free, I tend to order 500 1A's then 250 unions and 250 wms's etc so the 1000 do not have to all be the same blank.

I stock 12 different blanks coined, well worth the initial outlay.

But how many of you have had the phone call

"I have found your keys"

when someone picks up a bunch of the floor with one of your blanks on them!!!! :smt062

I used to think that having coined keys was a good idea, but before I could get round to sorting it out, I began to notice the number I was getting brought in to be cut with the name & number of the local locksmith on them, also from a hardware store in the next town.

I figured that people probably don't actually look at the keys, & have therefore never bothered.

I know you could say that if my names on there they stand more chance of coming to me than if it's not, but I just don't know!!

in 16 years it has made no difference if my company name is on keys or not!! i have not had one person mention it - i hope that it has - but not bothered in any way or shape if it is there or not - JUST CUT EM TO FIT AND THEY WILL CALL BACK 4 A NEW ONE AGAIN!

We sell and install a range of Evva high security barrels with coined blanks. Initially I was certain, that a coining would increase customer loyalty, but I now have doubts.

Whenever I ask a repeat customer, how he came to remember our number, only a minutely small number will mention the key coining.

However, we don't have a shop, just an office, and thus little everyday passing trade.

Kind regards,

Chris

We use squire restricted cylinders, a bit like your evva. Which are coined & we also use garrison multi-lock cylinders again which are coined. I got some quotes from all the suppliers stated in this forum but unfortunatley evey quote was more per key than if I buy them uncoined.

Best price for uncoined 1A key7p each from SKS + additional 3% off if you pay invoice within the month.

Best price for coined 1A key 9.5p each no dye charge from NW Keys + Colledges

So unless it's just us, and some of you guy's get better rates, it works out more.
