Forest Cobbler
Just been asked by a local jeweller whether we would be able to do fingerprint engraving. It's not something I've ever tried, though I'm willing to give it a go. So I wondered if any of you have engraved fingerprints and if you have any tips? Thanks

Paul_
We have before with limited success. It's all about the quality of the image as you know, we engraved a compact mirror (which is quite big compared to a piece of jewellery) so it looked ok. Forest Cobbler
Yeah, the jewellers are talking about a small pendant disc. Really not sure how well it'll come out when it's that small. Apparently they have someone who will engrave a fingerprint onto a signet ring, but the price is considered to be extortionate. Quite probably the guy doing the work considers it to be pretty reasonable for the time it takes. kobblers
grahamparker
Superglue works well for leaving fingerprints when you get it on you.
hibsjo(SCO)
shouldnt be a problem engraving the fingerprint the problem occurs trying to get the finger print or use default print carry on!
Auto Key Wizard
If the print doesn't need to be personal then a generic image would be easier
Forest Cobbler
Knowing the type of challenge I usually get form this particular jewellers customers, it will be the fingerprint of an adored grandchild.
Gray
Think you are going to need some sort of scanner then................ As Terry & Hibs said you could use a generic one.
Forest Cobbler
Got a scanner. But as you say, a generic one would be easier. I don't see how you could tell the difference anyway if it's really small. Going to do a test run later.
Forest Cobbler
So I downloaded a generic image for a practice run and it doesn't look too bad. Wouldn't want to go any smaller than this 15mm by 22mm though. kobblers, CotswoldEngraver and Happy Dude
